How often do you find yourself browsing the Internet for hours, not really achieving and at the end of the day realising you haven’t accomplished much? I do that a lot, and it makes me mad at myself, because I know I could have used just a few minutes of that time to try to make things better for others.
There are lots of things wrong in this world, and for most of them, it will take a lot more than an email sent or a petition signed to right them. However, if only 1% of the emails sent and the petitions signed bring real change, then it will have been worth signing the other 99%. As it is, I’m convinced that online activism is about more than being a couch potato. It makes you more aware of the rest of the world. It lets governments know that we are not an apathetic bunch. And from experience, I know it works.
So, next time you’re bored, do some good. I try to keep this blog as updated as possible.
